Measuring Engagement

How do we measure community engagement?

Evaluation of community engagement is difficult and requires both qualitative and quantitative measures. Evaluation of individual programs is best conducted by the units and community partners that deliver them an by those who support the relationships. Many institutions and organizations have attempted to create an institutional assessment framework to define the qualities of an engaged university and assess progress moving toward strategic goals. There are a number of options for the University to explore.

I suggest that UBC should make a stronger effort to be “BC’s university” rather than just “Vancouver’s university.” My experience living in other regions of the province is that UBC doesn’t have the profile is should in terms of engagement in and benefit to the whole province. Other regions have colleges and universities, but UBC has stature and power that needs to have an impact province-wide.
